Senior GenBI Consultant

    • Mechelen, Belgium

Job description

Your Role

As a Senior GenBI Consultant, you enable organisations to truly interact and chat with their data. You take the lead in shaping the semantic backbone that powers next-generation BI solutions.

Your primary focus is on capturing, structuring, and refining the semantics of the data in scope: definitions, synonyms, acronyms, business concepts and their relationships. Starting from what you discover within the customer environment, you shape this into a clean, consistent, and purpose-driven semantic model that forms the foundation for reliable GenBI outputs.

You make sure this semantic layer works in practice by validating GenBI responses against traditional BI outputs, identifying discrepancies, troubleshooting issues and reverse-engineering logic where needed. You bridge the gap between business and data, guiding stakeholders who are not fully data-savvy and helping them understand and use data in an easy, meaningful and trustworthy way.

What You Will Do

  • Build and refine semantic models that allow users to interact with data through GenBI solutions.

  • Identify, formalise and document business concepts, definitions, synonyms and acronyms.

  • Develop clear and robust data models that align with business requirements.

  • Validate GenBI results by comparing them with classical BI outputs (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, SQL-based reporting).

  • Troubleshoot inconsistencies and apply reverse-engineering skills to uncover underlying logic.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate their questions into well-structured semantic layers.

  • Work closely with data engineers, architects and governance specialists to ensure a coherent data and analytics landscape.

Job requirements

Your Profile

  • At least 5 years of experience in BI, data modelling or analytics.

  • Strong background in semantic modelling, business definitions and conceptual modelling.

  • Solid understanding of data modelling principles and experience setting up clean and maintainable models.

  • Hands-on technical capabilities: SQL proficiency and experience with BI tools such as Power BI or Qlik.

  • Strong reverse-engineering skills: you enjoy digging into logic, identifying gaps and ensuring consistency.

  • Excellent communication skills, especially in explaining complex data concepts to less data-savvy stakeholders.

  • Get-it-done mindset, analytical strength and a high sense of ownership.

  • Fluent in English and Dutch; French is a plus.
